Process Planning Engineer

The Role:
This is an Engineering level role within Production Planning for an experienced Paint Process Engineer to join the team in the launch of new product and model year updates.
In this role the successful candidate will be responsible for all process and Product related aspects of product delivery and a smooth handover to CMP at SOP within the PEP gateways.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Process / Product Planning

Working with site facilities to develop Process Layouts to meet customer requirements. Establishing process parameters to support paint processes. Project manage to ensure smooth integration of new processes working with the relevant parties.
Representative for pre-series paint at module meetings and forums within Crewe and as required with VW and Porsche, collection and resolution of tasks in line with launch of MY, special editions and new product.
Liaising with other departments for colour development and matching and also cross functional concerns resolution.

2. Facility Development

Identification and specification of tooling, jigs and fixtures for new product and MY updates, following trough trials and introduction. Assist is commissioning of new tooling using MSA as required.

3. Feasibility

Working to generate feasibility issues and their resolution. Conducting feasibility studies on processes. Raising of concerns and working through to closure.
Evaluation of new bodies or MY Changes to ensure capability with paint shop. Follow process development to ensure all processes are workable for all models.

4. Material Development

Development of new materials, optimising resources available, dealing with suppliers and the internal lab to achieve goals. Develop and mature new paint shop material strategies. Manage new colour requirements for MY and new product launch. Take on aspects of colour match of body to small parts of internally and externally painted components.

5. Best Practices

Identifying SWPA and best practices for paint processes. Working towards CIP in all areas. Attending module meetings and working cross function as required to resolve concerns. Involvement in MSA to ensure process reliability.

6. Document Generation

Working with the Product Engineer to complete PFMEA. Complete necessary paper work required to meet SOP, development of documentation in line with the clients standards using VW systems Tevon, AP2, KVS, Avon.

7. Extra Departmental Responsibilities

Involvement with corrosion car testing as required, development of sealing and waxing technologies. Liaison with BIW to ensure seamless flow from one area to the next. Assist production as required with paint concerns.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Skills & Experience
a. Previous experience of paint shop working in Automotive.
b. High level track record experience of all paint shop process.
c. Experience in automated paint shop.
d. Good working knowledge / experience of Group processes.
e. Experience in the application of Continuous Improvement & problem solving tools & techniques.
f. Knowledge of latest paint application technologies.
g. Ability to work as a team, cross functionally and on own initiative.
h. Clear communicator
i. Knowledge of product paint process, process design, facilities & standardised working.
j. Ability to use Microsoft Office, VW group systems and CATIA would be beneficial.

Practical & Technical Knowledge:
a. Knowledge and experience of product paint processes and technologies.
b. Able to translate Engineering drawing and understand process documentation.
c. Proven track record of Continuous Improvement Projects(CIP) .
d. Able to generate and monitor KPIs.
e. Knowledge of PEP gateways.
